How long does BIAB last, and when is an infill needed?

There is no guaranteed BIAB wear time. Natural nail growth, preparation, lifestyle, chosen length and aftercare all affect when maintenance is needed. Many clients plan a check or infill within roughly two to four weeks, but the correct timing is individual.

At a glance

What matters most

  • Visible regrowth alone does not show whether the existing product is suitable for an infill.
  • Lifting, cracks, discomfort or trapped moisture should be mentioned before the appointment.
  • Professional maintenance protects the natural nail better than peeling product away.

What changes between appointments

As the natural nail grows, the balance of the enhancement moves forward and a gap appears near the cuticle. Daily knocks, water exposure and using nails as tools can also affect the finish. Two clients wearing the same product may therefore need different maintenance schedules.

An infill is maintenance for a suitable existing set. It is not simply new product painted over every old set. The existing BIAB must be checked for lifting, cracks, separation and overall condition first.

Infill, repair or removal?

An infill may be appropriate when the existing product is secure and the structure can be safely maintained. Removal and a fresh application may be more suitable when there is extensive lifting, several repairs, a major shape change or uncertainty about the product already present.

  • Send a clear photo if several nails are lifting or broken.
  • State whether the existing set was applied by another salon.
  • Mention pain, discolouration or a recent nail injury before booking.

Looking after BIAB between visits

Use cuticle oil, moisturise your hands and wear gloves for prolonged cleaning. Keep the chosen length realistic for your routine and avoid picking at an edge if it begins to lift.

If a nail becomes painful, changes colour or shows a worrying change beneath the product, do not cover the issue with more product. Contact the salon and seek appropriate healthcare advice when needed.

Common questions

Before you book

Can every BIAB set be infilled?

No. The existing product and natural nail must be checked. Extensive lifting, damage or an unknown product may make removal and a fresh application more appropriate.

Can I glue down a lifted edge?

Do not seal or glue down lifting at home. Keep the area clean and dry, avoid pulling it, and contact the salon for advice.

Should I remove BIAB before my appointment?

No. Tell us what is present and book the correct removal or maintenance time. Peeling or forceful home removal can damage the natural nail.
